Somalia: Pirates Free Cargo Ship

The New York Times - The European Union Naval Force says a cargo ship held for more than five months by Somali pirates was freed Friday after a ransom was paid. The force said in a statement that the ship, the Asian Glory, which is registered in Britain, was freed along with 25 crew members from Ukraine, Bulgaria, India and Romania. It was hijacked last Jan. 1. Somali pirates have increased their attacks against ships off the coast of East Africa, but foreign navies have increased their patrols as well, helping to keep the number of successful hijackings roughly the same as last year despite the sharp increase in attacks.
